Where the handheld earns its keep
A card machine should do more than take the payment at the end. This one carries the whole transaction.
At the table
Take the order and the payment in one visit. Tips, split bills and receipts are handled at the table — no walking the card to the counter, no queue at the till.
In the queue
When the line reaches the door, a handheld turns one till into two. Orders go straight to the kitchen or bar while the counter keeps serving.
Receipts, sorted
Built-in printer for paper receipts, email receipts for customers who prefer them, or neither — chosen on screen at the point of payment.
Tabs & pre-auth
Open a tab with a pre-authorised card and stop chasing walkouts. Close it with tips and splits handled properly at the end of the night.
Paired with the till: Shift4 Duo
Not a terminal bolted onto a till — one system carrying both.

Linked to the POS as Shift4 Duo, the terminal runs the same order screen as the Workstation. Staff can browse the menu, take the order, send it to the kitchen and take payment — all on the device in their hand, all landing in the same reporting.
That is the practical difference between an integrated platform and a card reader with a till app: no double-keying, no mismatched totals at close, and one support team when something needs sorting.
